Mixed Views On Recovery, Good News May Come in 2010

ECONOMISTS have mixed views on when Malaysia will recover from the economic downturn with the earliest good news maybe to come in 2010.However, the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) said Malaysia, like the rest of the world, will continue to experience a sluggish economy for at least five years."My most optimistic opinion is that the recession will last for another five years," said MIER senior research fellow Foong Kee-Kuan.In January, MIER revised the country's growth for this year to 0.5 per cent from 1.3 per cent.
