MALAYSIAN shares were higher in early trading today on buying interest on selected heavyweights and index-linked counters following the gains on Wall Street last week, dealers said. At 9.20 am, the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) rose 2.02 points to 845.47 after opening 0.21 of a point higher at 843.66 compared withlast Friday''s close of 843.45.
Dealers said last week, the Dow Jones Industrial average gained nine per cent, rising 597.04 points to 7,223.98, while the Standard & Poor's 500 ended up 10.7 per cent, rising 73.17 points to 756.55. The Finance Index rose 0.63 of a point to 6,141.64, the Industrial Index went up 13.21 points to 2,055.82 and the Plantation Index was 7.94 points higher at 4,422.77.
