SHARE prices on Bursa Malaysia opened higher today, supported by buying interest in blue chips and lower liners, dealers said.
They said buying momentum remained strong as more investors returned to the market after the year-end holiday.
At 9.15am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 2.25 points to 1,295.42 after opening 0.52 of a point higher at 1,293.69.
The Finance Index rose 12.69 points to 11,220.49, the Plantation Index increased 14.69 points to 6,497.10 and the Industrial Index added seven points to 2,699.35.
The FBM Emas Index gained 22.65 points to 8,720.00, the FBM Top 100 Index improved 17.04 points to 8,482.85, the FBMACE Index added 8.98 points to 4,493.60 and the FBM70 Index climbed 26.34 points to 8,546.20.
Gainers led losers by 161 to 48 while 145 stocks were unchanged and 951 untraded.
Volume stood at 105.453 million shares worth RM89.772 million.
Among active stocks, Integrated Rubber Corporation rose 7.5 points to 93 sen, ETI Tech Corporation added a half sen to 41 sen, Petra Perdana gained 44 sen to RM2.05.
Among heavyweights, Sime Darby rose five sen to RM9.15 while Maybank and CIMB Group both flat at RM6.90 and RM13.24 respectively. - Bernama
