KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby, Genting and Maxis weighed down blue chips in the morning session on Tuesday, Jan 12 on some profit taking but the FBM KLCI managed to still stay above the 1,290 level.
The broader market was firmer, with rotational interest in small capitalised counters and penny stocks.
At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI fell 2.17 points to 1,292.34. Turnover was 963.33 million shares valued at RM790 million. There were 356 gainers, 306 losers and 258 stocks unchanged.
Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.57% to 10,859.79, Shanghai's Composite Index added 0.13% to 3,217.05 and Singapore's Straits Times Index inched up 0.02% to 2,934.15 but Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.45% to 22,310.83.
Light crude oil fell 62 cents to US$81.90, gold shed five cents to US$1,151.80 while crude palm oil futures lost RM28 to RM2,572.
At Bursa Malaysia, Sime Darby fell eight sen to RM9, dragging the FBM KLCI down by 1.16 points, Genting lost six sen to RM7.34, Maxis three sen to RM5.35 while Nestle slipped 72 sen to RM33.
Parkson gave up 17 sen to RM6.03, TSH fell 12 sen to RM2.18 with 137,000 shares done while Pentamaster also gave up 12 sen to 41 sen.
Putrajaya Perdana added 50 sen to RM3.40 on expectations of a general offer, Stemlife jumped 22.5 sen to 89.5 sen with 35.15 shares done while TMC Life Sciences gained 12 sen to 48.5 sen.
Among the FBM KLCI stocks, Tanjong rose 24 sen to RM17.58 while CIMB added two sen to RM13.52 and MISC four sen to RM8.68.
