Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were higher in early trading today, supported by gains on index-linked counters, led by Kuala Lumpur Kepong and IOI Corporation, dealers said.
At 9.44am, the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 6.82 points to 883.57 after opening 1.55 points higher at 878.30.A dealer said that the local market was generally steadier as news that the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) was keen to buy prime government land in the Klang Valley if the price was right helped lift sentiment.
The Plantation Index surged 102.82 points to 4,245.62, the Industrial Index advanced 12.47 points to 2,076.32 and the Finance Index went up 46.21 points to 6,837.92.The FBMEmas gained 44.80 points to 5,771.26, the FBM30 firmed 56.32 points to 5,694.05, the FBMMesdaq perked 2.02 points to 3,335.61 and the FBM2BRD was 7.27 points higher at 4,014.58.
Gainers led losers by 101 to 45, while 70 counters were unchanged, 1,037 untraded and 28 others suspended.Volume stood at 39.546 311.253 million shares worth RM45.056 million. Among actives, Ramunia Holdings eased 1.5 sen to 29.5 sen, Damansara Realty lost one sen to 16.5 sen, KNM Group perked one sen to 41.5 sen and Oilcorp gained 1.5 sen to 32.5 sen.
Of heavyweights, Maybank rose 10 sen to RM5.30, Tenaga Nasional went up five sen to RM6.30 while Telekom Malaysia was unchanged at RM3.08.Kuala Lumpur Kepong rose 25 sen to RM9.15 and IOI Corporation advanced 18 sen to RM3.74. — BERNAMA
