SHARE prices on Bursa Malaysia were firmer in mid-morning trade prompted by buying of selected heavyweights, especially banking stocks, said dealers.
At 11.01 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) was 3.29 points higher at 1,333.13 after opening 0.56 of a point easier at 1,329.28.
The Finance Index surged 54.89 points to 11,945.16, the Plantation Index increased 8.93 points to 6,484.1 and the Industrial Index inched up 0.96 of a point to 2,721.05.
The FBM Emas Index advanced 22.76 points to 9,035.68, the FBM70 increased 35.2 points to 9,029.13 but the FBM Ace Index fell 12.49 points to 4,231.22.
Gainers led decliners by just 260 to 207, while 257 counters were unchanged, 628 untraded and 30 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 200.57 million shares worth RM256.72 million.
Actives included IRCB which shed one sen to RM1.09, TimeCom was flat at 51 sen and Ramunia rose 1.5 sen to 38.5 sen.
Among heavyweights, Maybank added one sen to RM7.48, Sime Darby was flat at RM8.70 and CIMB increased 20 sen to RM14.58. Maxis shed one sen to RM5.33, MISC fell three sen to RM8.40, Tenaga gained two sen to RM8.08, Axiata jumped six sen to RM11.76 and Tanjong advanced 36 sen to RM18.76. - Bernama
