KUALA LUMPUR: SIME DARBY BHD []'s 75%-owned subsidary Sime Darby Water Resources (Perak) Sdn Bhd (SDWR) has inked a groundwater resource development agreement with the Perak state government.
In a statement yesterday, Sime Darby said subject to the terms and conditions in the agreement, the state government granted to SDWR rights to prospect, drill, abstract and treat groundwater sourced from areas approved by the state within the district of Batang Padang.
It said under the terms, SDWR would submit a feasibility study report in relation to the sustainability of the project for the approval of the state as well as an implementation programme and business plan in respect of abstracting groundwater for commercial supply.
Sime Darby said SDWR, together with the government, would develop a groundwater resource management plan and establish a steering committee with representation from the state to govern the sustainable abstraction of groundwater.
