Nazir named Communicator of the Year 2009

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group's CEO Datuk Seri Nazir Razak has been named Communicator of the Year in a unanimous decision of the judges at the third Malaysia PR Awards (MPRA 2009).

In a statement yesterday, the awards organiser Public Relations Consultants Association of Malaysia (PRCA Malaysia) president Julia Ahmad said Nazir was selected for his prowess in delivering the key messages of the CIMB and for his effectiveness as a communicator.

"Our panel of judges, comprising leading PR practitioners in consultancy and corporations, selected him based on his outstanding PR ability to reach stakeholder audiences," she said in a statement. Julia presented Nazir the Gold Award at the awards ceremony on Wednesday night.

"This Gold Award is bestowed based on information available in the public domain. One does not apply to take part as this category cannot be entered," Julia said.

MPRA 2009 saw five category award winners, six certificates of excellence and three honourable mentions.

Text 100 won the Campaign of the Year (Gold Award) after grabbing the top spot in two categories — Consumer Launch Campaign of the Year and TECHNOLOGY [] Campaign of the Year — all for "DiGi Broadband: Being last to market, can be best".

The other winners were Ming, KH & Associates (Product Brand Development Campaign of the Year, Hong Kong for Muslim Travellers); Fleishman-Hillard and Malaysia Airlines (Best Use of Digital, Building Bridges, changing conversations, driving dialogue) and Reputation Mercatus (Promotional Activity Campaign of the Year, Redbull Rookies 2009).
