KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI clung on to the 1,270 level at midday on Friday, Dec 4 supported by small gains in Tanjong and Genting but the overall breadth of the market was quiet with trading volume on the decline with CIMB among the main losers.
At 12.30pm, the 30-stock FBM KLCI fell 1.76 points to 1,270.59. Turnover was 325.57 million shares valued at RM342.25 million. There were 205 gainers, 283 losers and 238 stocks unchanged.
Japan's Nikkei also slumped, giving up the early gains, with 225-stock index down 0.07% to 9,970.87. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 1.4% to 22,240.86 and Singapore's Straits Times Index slipped 0.5% to 2,794.04 but Shanghai's Composite Index edged up just 0.08% to 3,267.29.
Crude palm oil futures rose RM15 to RM2,496. Light crude oil fell 51 cents to US$75.95 pressured by weak U.S. service sector data and nervousness ahead of non-farm payrolls data later in the day. US spot gold lost US$4.75 to US$1,202.85.
NSOP fell the most, down 19 sen to RM4.30, PPB 12 sen to RM15.78 and Far East 10 sen to RM6.50.
BTM-OR lost 17.5 sen to 34 sen with 771,800 units done as traders took profit after the surge in its price while the shares fell 9.5 sen to 90.5 sen.
Aeon lost 13 sen to RM4.82 but with only 700 shares done, CIMB 12 sen to RM12.86 while PetGas and Hai-O declined 10 sen each to RM9.80 and RM6.85.
Vastalux fell to its lowest since listing, down two sen to 19.5 sen and it was the most active wirth 15.52 million shares done. In the third quarter ended Sept 30, it posted net losses of RM17.72 million, a stark contrast from the net profit of RM7.25 million a year ago.
LCL managed to eke out a five sen gain to 36 sen as the recent selling seemed overdone but the interior outfit company was still cautious about its outlook and exposure to Dubai.
Transmile rose 15 sen to RM1.08 in active trade in the absence of any positive corporate news. Ranhill added eight sen to 89 sen on a better outlook for the company, especially its power business.
EON Cap was the top gainer, adding 26 sen to RM6.06 while market talk of a possible corporate exercise saw Measat jumping 19 sen to RM2. Genting added 12 sen to RM7.35 and Tanjong 10 sen to RM16.44
