Positive Malaysia trade growth in Q4 likely

Published: 2009/09/03

MALAYSIA is likely to see a positive growth in its trade figure for the fourth quarter this year in view of increased orders especially for electrical & electronic and chemical products.

Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said that there were many positive signs at the moment with Penang and Johor receiving more orders.

This trend however is not considered a "u-turn" as yet, he said.

"We hope the fourth quarter will be much better than the third quarter or even the fourth quarter of last year," he told reporters after launching "1001 Raya Delights" at Sunway Pyramid.

Malaysia recorded a trade surplus of RM9.12 billion in June this year, making it the 140th consecutive month of trade surplus since 1997.

Total trade in June this year rose 7 per cent to RM81.09 bilion.

The country's exports rose 5.1 per cent to RM45.01 billion in June compared with May which recorded RM42.92 billion. - Bernama
