Malaysian shares closed up 0.48 per cent today on gains in finance and property blue-chips, dealers said.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 5.65 points to 1,173.66.
Overall, gainers thumped losers by 454 to 169 while 221 counters were unchanged and 407 others untraded.
Turnover rose to 588.5 million shares worth RM985.3 million from 522.3 million shares worth RM905.8 million on Wednesday.
“Intermittent profit-taking was evident throughout the day but value hunting by local funds helped to keep the market afloat,” a dealer said.
Blue chips such as Genting Malaysia, Sime Darby and Astro also attracted steady interest, the dealer said.
Among gainers, gaming group Genting added 5.60 per cent to RM6.81 and E&O was up 13.10 per cent to RM1.47.
On the downside, gaming firm Berjaya Sports Toto lost 0.90 per cent to RM4.32 while SP Setia also lost 0.90 per cent to RM4.36.
