FBM KLCI slips at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI slipped 0.11 of a point at 10am today to 1,201.96, in line with marginal losses at key regional markets after having jumped to a 14-month high yesterday.

Trading volume was thin with 147.97 million shares valued at RM181.52 million. Gainers led losers by 187 to 139, while 184 counters traded unchanged.

The local index was weighed down by losses at Genting, Sime Darby, Telekom, Hong Leong Bank, UMW Holdings, Petronas Gas and Tanjong Plc.

Genting fell 12 sen to RM7.05, Sime Darby down 11 sen to RM8.49, Telekom and Petgas lost 4 sen each to RM3.11 and RM9.71, UMW fell 6 sen to RM6.39 while Hong Leong slipped 5 sen to RM6.39.

Other losers in early trade included KrisAssets, KLCC PROPERTIES [], LFE Corporation, Oriental Holdings and Knusford.

Among the major gainers, Maybank added 3 sen to RM6.58, CIMB rose 4 sen to RM10.52 while Proton and Carlsberg added 6 sen each to RM3.72 and RM4.47.

Other gainers included Allianz, Amway, United Malacca, Metrod, IOI Corporation, Dayang and Sarawak Oil Palms.

The most actively traded stock this morning was KNM Group with 18.8 million shares done. The counter added half a sen to 74.5 sen.

Other actively traded stocks included Mlabs, Genting, Poh Kong, E&O, Kinsteel, Kannaltec and Dayang.

At the regional markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 slipped 0.33% to 10,358.48, Taiwan's TAIEX Index fell 0.21% to 7,298.29, South Korea's Kospi lost 0.34% to 1,614.21, Singapore's Straits Times Index fell 0.24% to 2,654.48 while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gave up 0.31% to 21,003.74.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.07% to 2,932.57.
