KL shares mixed at midday

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were mixed at midday today led by losses in selective bluechips as the market took cue from the overnight slide on Wall Street, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR COMPOSITE INDEX [] (FBM KLCI) ended the morning session 1.04 points lower at 1,252.8, after opening 1.22 points lower at 1,252.62.

A dealer said the upcoming listing of Maxis is likely to provide a catalyst for the local bourse and expected to attract both local and international investors.

HwangDBS Vickers Research said the benchmark FBM KLCI may extend its gains and is likely to breach its immediate resistance level of 1,255.

The FBM Emas Index slipped 8.881 to 8,387.02, the FBM Top 100 was 8.9 points lower to 8,175.76 and the FBM 70 fell 17.34 points to 8,125.93 but the FBM ACE Index rose 123.02 points to 4,603.81.

The Finance Index rose 1.88 points to 10,699.77, the PLANTATION [] Index, however fell 12.5 points to 6,064.36 and the INDUSTRIAL INDEX [] edged up 0.37 of a point to 2,688.59.

Losers led gainers by 311 to 251 with 225 counters unchanged and 484 others untraded.

Turnover stood at 924.532 million shares worth RM727.135 million.

For the actives, Time Engineering rose two sen to 53.5 sen, Redtone increased 10 sen to 42 sen and Ramunia-Warrant added one sen to 38 sen.

Among the heavyweights, Sime Darby increased seven sen to RM9.00, Maybank rose one sen to RM6.83 while CIMB was unchanged at RM12.64 and Tenaga fell one sen to RM8.40. -- Bernama
