CIMB rises, but broader market cautious

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of CIMB Group extended their gains in early trade on Wednesday, Nov 11 after posting record profits while the FBM KLCI was off its early high on mild profit taking.

At 10am, the FBM KLCI rose 2.89 points to 1,276.97 off the high of 1,279.52. Turnover was 326.77 million shares valued at RM210.65 million. There were 138 gainers, 203 losers and 184 counters unchanged.

Among key Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.22% to 9,892.29; Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index opened 1% up at 22,486.2 while Singapore's Straits Times Index inched up 0.15% to 2,711.69. Shanghai's Composite Index fell 0.29% to 3,169.64.

Light crude oil fell 29 US cents to US$79.03 while US spot gold rose 60 US cents to US$1,106.4.

Hwang DBS Vickers Research said the key FBM KLCI — after closing at a new high for the year on Tuesday — will probably defend its six-day winning streak of 32.3-points ahead, though the benchmark index on the other hand will not likely climb above the immediate resistance level of 1,280 just yet.

CIMB rose 26 sen to RM13.08, Nestle added 24 sen to RM33, F&N 14 sen to RM10.84. Hup Seng rose 20 sen to RM2.65, HaiO 17 sen to RM7.97 and MPHB nine sen to RM1.99.

Chinese shoe maker XiDeLang rose 7.5 sen to 65.5 sen. It was the most active with 66.8 million shares done.

Hubline-WA, which was listed today, rose 6.5 sen to 11 sen and it was the second most active with 62.8 million shares done. Hubline shed one sen to 23.5 sen.

Another Chinese shoe maker, Multi-Sports fell five sen to 56.5 sen wile XSngquan gave up six sen to RM1.34.

BAT fell the most, sliding 40 sen to RM45.60 with 32,100 shares done. MTD fell 19 sen to RM2.66 while Widetech and Berjaya Land lost 17 sen each to 33 sen and RM4. Hartalega shed six sen to RM5.55 on profit taking after posting strong earnings
