UNITED U-Li Corp Bhd (7133), which makes light fittings, cable support and ceiling systems, will spend up to RM50 million to set up a new plant in Klang, Selangor, to centralise all its current manufacturing operation.
Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk James Lee Yoon Kong said upon completion, all its existing plants in Selangor and Perak will be relocated to Klang for better procurement, cost and inventory management.
"The plan is also to cut down the production lead time and achieve higher efficiency," he said after the company's extraordinary general meeting in Subang Jaya, Selangor, yesterday.
U-Li owns a light fitting plant in Ipoh, a warehouse in Johor, and two factories in Seri Kembangan and Balakong that make electrical cable support and integrated ceiling systems.
Lee said U-Li has identified a 12-ha site in Klang, and construction on the new plant may start next year.
On the three existing plants, Lee said they may be converted to become ready warehouses.
U-Li may also dispose of some of the plants to finance the construction of its new facility.
Lee also said that U-Li is building its exports aggressively, entering new areas such as Europe and Australia, and the new plant will help drive the company's growth.
