KUALA LUMPUR: TENAGA NASIONAL BHD [] has signed an agreement for the purchase of electricity generated by a small renewable energy (RE) power project developed by Sediaplas Sdn Bhd for a period of 21 years at RM18.4 million annually.
In a statement yesterday, Tenaga said the RE power plant, which uses methane gas from a tapioca scheme, would be located in Rompin, Pahang and would have an export capacity of 10 megawatts (MW).
The agreement is made under the government’s small renewable energy power programme, which was launched in May 2001, that promotes the utilisation of RE in power generation and to reduce emission of greenhouse gases. To date, Tenaga’s renewable energy power purchase agreements (REPPA) involved a total capacity of 74.55MW.
