KL shares close 0.52 per cent higher

Published: 2009/10/01

MALAYSIAN shares closed up 0.52 per cent Thursday as heavyweights and selected lower-liners provided positive sentiment, dealers said.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 6.27 points to 1,208.35 with a volume of 523.58 million shares worth RM823.30 million.

There were 287 gainers, 322 losers and 229 counters traded unchanged.

“There was some institutional interest in heavyweights which pushed up the benchmark, while early gains on more speculative stocks gave way to sporadic profit-taking in the afternoon session,” a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires.

Advancers include telecommunications company Axiata which rose 1.6 per cent to RM3.15while gaming giant Genting Malaysia climbed 1.1 per cent to RM2.77.

On the downside, budget carrier AirAsia was down 0.7 per cent at RM1.39 as construction company SapuraCrest slid 0.5 per cent to RM1.90. - AFP
