CIMB Bank appoints new ED

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Bank has appointed Sulaiman Mohd Tahir as its executive director with effect from yesterday, to succeed Tunku Datuk Ahmad Burhanuddin, who has left the bank and CIMB Group after 25 years of service to join Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

In a statement yesterday, CIMB Bank said Sulaiman would continue to helm the bank’s consumer sales and distribution division, overseeing the operation and sales performance of its 367-branch franchise, 22 business centres and 20 mobile sales centres with about 8,500 staff.

Sulaiman began his career with the then Bank of Commerce (M) Bhd (now known as CIMB Bank) in 1987 and held various positions including group head of the Japanese business unit, branch manager for Shah Alam, area business manager managing business credit relationships for Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya before being appointed as the regional manager for Selangor and the Federal Territory.

In 2002, he led the credit card centre before assuming the role of head of retail sales and subsequently as head of the consumer sales and distribution division in January 2005.

CIMB Group chief executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said: “Sulaiman brings with him a wealth of experience from the various positions he has held in the bank. He has also demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities by transforming our consumer sales and distribution division, a key factor in our overall consumer bank turnaround.”
