THE Securities Commission (SC) has revised its guidelines to allow exchange-traded funds (ETF) listed on another exchange to be listed on Bursa Malaysia as well. The revised guidelines come into effect today. A fund manager will be able to list a foreign ETF on Bursa Malaysia provided that it comes from a recognised jurisdiction.Currently, the recognised jurisdiction is the Dubai International Financial Centre.
However, it is also possible to cross-list a foreign ETF from a non-recognised jurisdiction if it has a regulatory regime comparable to Malaysia, the SC said in a statement."The SC consulted selected fund managers in formulating the revision," it said. There are currently three ETFs listed on Bursa Malaysia: ABF Malaysia Bond Index Fund, FBM 30 ETF and MyETF Dow Jones Islamic Market Malaysia Titans 25.The revised ETF guidelines, which involve mainly the addition of two new chapters, can be seen on www.sc.com.my.
