KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd's recently appointed president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas is the new chairman of MISC BHD [].
THe 57-year-old Shamsul takes over as MISC chairman with effect from Feb 10. He was the president/CEO of MISC from July 1, 2004 until Dec 31, 2008.
He was appointed Petronas president and CEO on Feb 10, 2010, taking over from Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican.
Shamsul is currently the chairman of AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd, a unit of MISC, Chairman of PSE Kinsale Energy Limited and PSE Seven Head Limited and he also holds other directorships in Star Energy Group PLC, Petronas Lubricant Italy S.P.A and PSE Ireland Limited.
He has a degree in political science from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He also holds a Master's of Science Degree in Energy Management from University of Pennsylvania.
He joined Petronas in 1975 and has held various senior management positions including senior general manager, corporate planning and development division, vice president petrochemical business, vice president oil business, vice president exploration and production business and vice president logistics & maritime business.
