KL shares up slightly in early trade

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened slightly higher today, as investors bought selected heavyweight stocks ahead of a string of good corporate results to be announced later today, dealers said.

At 9.12am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 2.74 points to 1,303.09 after opening 0.86 of a point higher at 1,301.21.

Tenaga Masional Bhd and Public Bank Bhd, expected to release their financial results, are among the gainers.

The Finance Index gained 31.5 points to 11,434.95, the Industrial Index eased 0.53 of a point to 2,703.51 and the Plantation Index added 5.67 points to 6,479.79.



The FBM Emas Index jumped 22.41 points to 8,804.26, the FBM Ace Index rose 9.91 points to 4,723.47 and the FBM70 Index surged 30.699 points to 8,640.43.

In thin trading, gainers led losers 198 to 38 while 117 counters remained unchanged and 952 others were untraded. Volume stood at 67.313 million shares worth RM56.746 million.

Among active stocks, Mango Tone Group was flat at three sen, Transmile Group added one sen to RM1.08 and Kinsteel rose two sen to RM1.17.

For heavyweights, Sime Darby and CIMB Group Holdings were unchanged at RM8.90 and RM13.38, respectively, while Maybank added two sen to RM6.90.

Maxis eased one sen to RM5.39.

Tenaga Nasional earned one sen to RM8.18 while Public Bank gained four sen to RM12.08. -- Bernama
