How to avoid investing in a Madoff-style fund
Times Money offers some hints on avoiding dodgy schemes.

Justin Urquhart Stewart, of Seven Investment Management, gives investors some hints on how to avoid putting money into schemes that prove to be a costly mistake.
He says you should ask what any suggested fund is invested in, and what the charges are. You also need to know by whom, if anyone, the fund is regulated and whether you can get your money out in a hurry.
He concludes: "The golden rule to remember is that If something appears too good to be true, it probably is."
