Ringgit ditutup rendah

KUALA LUMPUR 3 Mei - Ringgit ditutup rendah berbanding dolar AS hari ini berikutan penghindaran risiko, kata para peniaga.

Pada pukul 5 petang, mata wang tempatan diniagakan pada 3.2085/2115 berbanding 3.1820/1850 Jumaat lepas.

Mereka berkata pasaran bimbang dengan keupayaan Greece melaksanakan pembaharuan menangani beban hutangnya yang tinggi.

Para pelabur menjangkakan masalah kredit itu akan berleluasa dan mengheret ekonomi Eropah tetapi kebimbangan itu bagaimanapun telah memberi sokongan kepada dolar AS.

Ringgit pula dijangka terus kukuh berbanding dolar AS kerana pasaran menjangkakan yang Bank Negara akan menaikkan sekali lagi kadar faedah bulan ini, kata seorang penganalisis.

Ringgit ditutup teramat rendah berbanding mata wang utama yang lain.Ia lemah berbanding dolar Singapura kepada 2.3352/3395 daripada 2.3306/3345 pada Jumaat dan susut berbanding yen Jepun kepada 3.4126/4169 daripada 3.3700/3750 minggu lepas.

Mata wang tempatan juga lebih lemah berbanding euro kepada 4.2455/2501 daripada 4.2362/2408 minggu lepas dan ditutup tinggi sedikit berbanding pound Britain pada 4.8891/8946 daripada 4.8898/8960 pada Jumaat.- Bernama

Saham Bursa turun FBM KLCI naik

KUALA LUMPUR 3 Mei - Harga-harga saham di Bursa Malaysia mengakhiri dagangan pada paras lebih rendah hari ini, disebabkan oleh kegiatan menjual di kaunter-kaunter mewah terpilih apabila pelabur mengambil isyarat daripada trend menurun di Wall Street dan bursa serantau, kata peniaga.

Bagaimanapun, Indeks Komposit Kuala Lumpur FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM KLCI)terus meningkat dengan kenaikan 0.51 mata kepada 1,346.89, setelah dibuka 2.14 mata lebih rendah pada 1,344.24.Sementara itu, dalam satu nota penyelidikannya hari ini, OSK Research berkata FBM KLCI memperlihatkan prestasi wajar dengan pulangan sebanyak 2.1 peratus dalam bulan April.

Di bursa saham hari ini, Indeks Kewangan naik 2.729 mata kepada 12,094.52, Indeks Perusahaan mengukuh 1.82 mata kepada 2,778.49 dan Indeks Perladangan menambah 9.39 mata kepada 6,457.48.

Indeks FBM Emas turun 4.69 mata kepada 9,100.56, FBM70 susut 20.92 mata kepada 8,996.86 dan Indeks FBM Ace Index jatuh 10.06 mata kepada 4,158.79.

Saham untung mengatasi saham rugi dengan jumlah 456 berbanding 254 manakala 268 kaunter tidak berubah, 392 tidak diniagakan dan 26 yang lain digantung urus niaga. Jumlah dagangan susut sedikit kepada 771.119 juta saham bernilai RM1.031 bilion berbanding 889.094 juta saham bernilai RM1.474 bilion pada penutupan Jumaat.

Antara saham cergas, Talam Corp menokok sesen kepada 15 sen, Genting jatuh tiga sen kepada RM2.87 dan Tejari Technologies meningkat lima sen kepada 29 sen.

Bagi saham mewah, Maybank turun tiga sen kepada RM7.63, Sime Darby naik tiga sen kepada RM8.81, Tenaga susut tujuh sen kepada RM8.43 dan CIMB masih pada RM14.18.

Jumlah dagangan Pasaran Utama mengecil kepada 636.772 juta saham bernilai RM993.670 juta daripada 743.389 juta saham bernilai RM1.435 bilion Jumaat lepas. Dalam pasaran ACE, bagaimanapun, jumlah dagangan bertambah kepada 81.241 juta saham bernilai RM17.441 juta daripada 75.05 juta saham bernilai RM13.07 juta.

Waran susut kepada 42.392 juta unit bernilai RM8.583 juta daripada 56.97 juta unit bernilai RM10.5 juta sebelumnya.

Barangan pengguna menguasai 21.731 juta saham yang diniagakan dalam Pasaran Utama, barangan perusahaan 92.917 juta, pembinaan 49.973 juta, perdagangan dan perkhidmatan 199.859 juta, teknologi 25.554 juta, prasarana 9.558 juta, kewangan 83.655 juta, hotel 5.873 juta, harta 135.901 juta, perladangan 9.965 juta, perlombongan 3,000, REIT 1.752 juta dan dana tertutup 29,700. - Bernama

KL bourse lower on selling activities

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed lower yesterday, prompted by selling activities in selected heavyweights as investors took cue from the downtrend on Wall Street and regional bourses, dealers said.


The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI), however, stayed up, rising 0.51 of a point to 1,346.89, after opening 2.14 points lower at 1,344.24.

Meanwhile, in its research note yesterday, OSK Research said the FBM KLCI turned in a reasonable performance with a total return of 2.1 per cent during the month of April.

The research firm said on a year-to-date basis, Bursa Malaysia was the third best performing market after Indonesia and the Philippines.

"Markets were undoubtedly spurred by the stronger ringgit, which appreciated from RM3.26 to a dollar to RM3.19 at end of April. Our KLCI year-end target of 1,465 points is retained," it added.



At the close of trading yesterday, the Finance Index increased 2.73 points to 12,094.52, the Industrial Index gained 1.82 points to 2,778.49 and the Plantation Index added 9.39 points to 6,457.48.

The FBM Emas Index declined 4.69 points to 9,100.56, the FBM70 fell 20.92 points to 8,996.86 and the FBM Ace Index decreased 10.06 points to 4,158.79.

Advancers outpaced decliners by 456 to 254, while 268 counters were unchanged, 392 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover yesterday was slightly lower at 771.12 million shares worth RM1.03 billion compared with last Friday's closing of 889.10 million shares valued at RM1.47 billion.

Among active stocks, Talam Corp rose 1 sen to 15 sen, Genting Malaysia declined 3 sen to RM2.87 and Tejari Technologies increased 5 sen to 29 sen.

As for heavyweights, Maybank declined 3 sen to RM7.63, Sime Darby rose 3 sen to RM8.81, Tenaga eased 7 sen to RM8.43 and CIMB was unchanged at RM14.18.

The Main Market volume declined to 636.77 million shares valued at RM993.67 million from 743.39 million shares worth RM1.44 billion last Friday.

Volume on the ACE market, however, increased to 81.24 million shares valued at RM17.44 million from 75.05 million shares worth RM13.07 million.

Warrants decreased to 42.39 million units valued at RM8.58 million from 56.97 million units worth RM10.5 million previously. - Bernama

KL shares lower at midmorning

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained lower at midmorning today as investors took cue from the downtrend on Wall Street last Friday, dealers said.

At 11.00am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) rose 0.010 of a point to 1,346.39, after opening 2.14 points lower at 1,344.24.

A dealer said retail investors stayed on the sidelines and there was also some foreign selling in the market.

However, he said, the local market is likely to remain resilient, led by an anticipated good first quarter earnings season and a further short term strengthening of the ringgit would boost the market further.



The Finance Index lost 1.271 points to 12,090.52 while the Industrial Index increased 2.69 points to 2,779.36 and the Plantation Index was 12.8 points higher at 6,460.89.

The FBM Emas Index declined 4.46 points to 9,100.79, the FBM70 eased 13.86 points to 9,003.92 and the FBM ACE slid 13.31 points to 4,155.54.

Decliners outpaced advancers by 273 to 156 while 201 counters were unchanged, 740 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 232.4 million shares worth RM214.1 million.

Among the actives, Talam Corp and Damansara Realty rose half sen to 14.5 sen and 78.5 sen respectively and Tejari Technologies increased 6.5 sen to 30.5 sen.

For the heavyweights, Maybank fell one sen to RM7.65, Sime Darby rose one sen to RM8.79, CIMB increased two sen to RM14.20 and Tenaga declined five sen to RM8.45. -- Bernama

Gamuda falls after its fair value cut

Gamuda Bhd, a Malaysian builder, fell in Kuala Lumpur trading after its fair value was cut to RM3.82 at AmResearch Sdn Bhd.

The stock fell 1 per cent to RM2.97 at 9.15 am local time, set for its biggest fall since April 28. - Bloomberg

Target price on Axiata raised to RM4.90

TA says it is revising its estimates on Axiata higher by 8-16 per cent for financial years 2010-2012 for after imputing XL's adjustments.

"In our new estimates, XL's higher earnings contribution would likely come from EBITDA margin adjustments," TA says.

The research firm is maintaining its "buy" recommendation on Axiata with a revised target price of RM4.90.

"We believe our earnings projections are too conservative and therefore have tweaked our FY10-11 estimates to reflect i) data growth driven by affordable smartphones, ii) tower leasing rising and iii) stable RPM," TA says.

FBM KLCI remains in the red at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI briefly ventured into positive territory before declining at mid-morning Monday, May 3, in line with losses at key Asian bourses including South Korea's Kospi, Taiwan's TAIEX, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index and the Singapore Straits Times Index.

At 10.05am, the benchmark FBM KLCI fell 1.89 points to 1,344.49. Trading volume was 163.26 million shares valued at RM125.34 million. Losers led gainers by 200 to 129, while 167 counters traded unchanged.

At mid-morning, DiGI was the top loser and fell 18 sen to RM22.52; Sime fell 12 sen to RM8.66, KBB down 10 sen to 31.5 sen, Ho Hup lost 6.5 sen to 50 sen while UBG, P.I.E. and AFG fell 6 sen each to RM2.27, RM4.42 and RM3.07, respectively.

Meanwhile, Golsta and Tan Chong lost 5 sen each to 20 sen and RM4.55, respectively.

Pacific & Orient was among the top gainers in early trade and added 23 sen to RM1.49; LPI Capital jumped 16 sen to RM15.20 after Kenanga Research initiated coverage on the stock with a buy recommendation at RM15.04 and target price RM16.80.

The research house said it favoured LPI the most among general insurers in Malaysia due to its well-diversified business portfolio enabling the company to minimise its operating risks and generates the highest return on equity (RoE) to reward shareholders.

Proton added 15 sen to RM4.95, BAT and Tanjong rose 12 each to RM44.10 and RM18, KLK added 10 sen to RM16.60 while IJM and WCT gained 9 sen each to RM5.02 and RM3.03, respectively.

Talam was the most actively traded stock with 36.45 million shares done. The counter added one sen to 15 sen. Other actively traded stocks included Tejari, Olympia, Genting and KNM Group.
